In Sept of 2009, I was offered a retirement package from my employer even though I was not planning on retiring until 2012. I was now forced into retirement while owning a new house with a large mortgage. My wife had retired in 2003. We had just purchased a new home in 2007. We called our mortgage company to discuss a loan modification, and they advised us that we needed to be patient as the value of our home would come back in about 10-15 years. Since guidelines for the short sale specifically state the sale must comply with the original buyer’s sale, we knew we would be asked to leave very quickly. Jason found us a rental. Our short sale closed, and we were moved within 3 weeks without the additional stress or burden of finding another home to live in. We feel we have friends for life.
